I was going to boycott UMG because of their blatant abuse of copyright laws. Specifically on YouTube. But I don’t want the artists to pay for their label being shit. I think in future, if I want to listen to music from an artist on the UMG label, I’ll try to buy it digitally straight from their website (if applicable). Because pirating it is only going to worsen the situation.
It’d be cool in my opinion if decent artists who are with Universal dropped them and got a new label!
Oh yeah, and it’s also Universal Music Group who pushed for the takedown of megaupload. And I don’t know if you’re familiar with it, but there’s a song called “The Mega Song”, which was recorded by well known artists in support of megaupload. It was put on YouTube, and UMG told YT to take it down, citing copyright infringement. Even though UMG didn’t own that song in any way. So yeah. They suck.
